GYROMAG
GYROMAG is a first-person arena shooter where the power to change gravity is at your command. Realised in a modern 3D pixel aesthetic, you’ll find yourself utilising the diverse arsenal and swift gravity-swapping to annihilate your opponents and prove yourself to be the superior Droidbot!
As a team of six students, we developed GYROMAG over half a year while in our final year of study. I undertook the majority of the game’s design and conception, along with leading development of the weaponry and character controllers, and many of the UI elements. As a networked multiplayer game with flexible gravity there was a lot of technical challenges, and also some neat designs that emerged from our iteration in production. Trying to emulate the Quake shooter formula feel meant that we had flexibility to have crazy weapons, and that created some really exciting and varied archetypes for players to utilise: from a Beggar’s-Bazooka-styled rocket launcher, to a charging laser beam and slow-moving-ball-of-death launcher!
